Howdy from Kansas
My name is Andy, I have been wet shaving for just over a year with a DE and have just purchased a cheap ZY 430+ to use as a practice razor before I spend big money at The Superior Shave on a Boker 4/8" with bone scales. I also plan to use the ZY to learn to hone with.
I do need someone in the Olathe/Kansas City area to hone this razor...but I'll save that for the proper subforum.

Thanked: 3795There are plenty of people in the Kansas City MO area who can help you so you should able to get off to a good start. Contact Hibudgl, or Nun2sharp, or Modine and they can get your razors honed and help you with anything else.

Hi Andy & welcome aboard. I have seen those ZY's on eBay & the seller advertises them as the better version of a Gold Dollar. I have no idea, I own neither but aside from that, you will find plenty of information here, especially in the Library starting in the Beginners Guide & go from there. You will definitely need a strop as you will learn. You can practice on one using a butter knife so that you don't cut you strop & dull your blade. Just be patient & take your time. Follow Utopian's advice for the help near you. There's nothing like one on one mentoring! Great to have you here.
Good luck my friend.Last edited by engine46; 11-26-2015 at 03:11 AM.

I splurged and got the ZY with the canvas on leather strop...this razor came in not entirely dull, it will pop hairs a 1/2" off my chest, but it does tug slightly when shaving. I just want it as sharp as it should be. What makes this better than the GD is that it doesn't have the thick part of the heal extending down the blade, the blade centers and from what I hear, the scales are better.

HI Andy;
If you wish to send me a PM, we'll make sure you start off correctly. I've never seen a ZY I'd be happy to take a look at it. I'm curious about it now too.
Mike
