Thanked: 0Excited to take the plunge.
I literally just bought a round point razor on here a few minutes ago. I am really excited to give this a try. Assuming the blade is as advertised "shave ready" I think all I need is a strop right?? Does anyone have a suggestion for a good yet reasonably priced one for a real newbie?

Put your location in your profile so we can better help you , but SRP will be good to get a strop from or do a search for Illinois strops they can be had really inexpensive. A good brush and proper soap will help also. If you got it here then your in good hands if told it was shave ready. Now read as much as you can digest in the library and try to take the advise given about going slow one section at a time, and don't be discouraged because your first shave doesn't go well, it gets better after a hundred or so. When you damage your edge , and you will, come back and we,ll get in the hands of a good person to hone it back up for you. Good luck. And welcome. Tc

Hi and welcome. Either a cheaper but quality strop like the Illinois is good or get one with replacement pieces so when you're finished nicking it you can just replace it. The SRD strops are good. Good luck and any questions feel free to ask

Welcome hawkman. I got a very nice 3 in. strop from SRD a few weeks ago and love it but if this is your first strop don't go nuts. I cut my first strop up pretty bad learning proper technique. Whipped dog is a good place to go for an inexpensive but good strop to learn on.

Welcome! There are lots of members that are here in Texas with you, unfortunality Texas is so large we aren't always close... I would be happy to help you out but I am a couple of hours west of you
As for strops, as mentioned above the strops from whipped dog will work well for starters. With that being said, I shredded my first strop (I think most of us do!) and would Recommend that you start off with a bench strop.
Later down the road, straight razor designs has some really great strops that are worth the money.
Have fun and ask questions if you get stuck!
