Thanked: 1587Welcome to SRP!
Dovos bought from Shaver Shop will only have, as others have said, the factory edge. I used to hone for the Shaver Shops up here, but I had to push that on them after I found out they were sending their straights out to a guy who sharpens chainsaws! I doubt other Shaver Shops have a similar person elsewhere, though I could be wrong.
Miranda, is that a Sydney suburb? Oz (onimaru55) is in Sydney I think. Look him up.
You need a strop if you haven't got one already. Other things can fill in for one in the meantime (look around the forum for what some people have used - jeans, old belts...) but a strop is as important as the razor.
Good luck,
James.<This signature intentionally left blank>

Yassou Teddi !
Welcome to the 'Place'
Don't know how much research you did but I doubt any of the forums suggest shaving a 12 day growth as a first shave
Anyhoo a couple of things to point out is that the blade needs to be near flat on your face or you are scraping rather than cutting.
Also you will benefit from good prep. Hot towels & good lather.
Talk soon. The white gleam of swords, not the black ink of books, clears doubts and uncertainties and bleak outlooks.

Greetings to you mate. I have always wanted to visit Australia. I missed my chance when I was involved in the Sugar Cane business.
Good luck on your adventure. I remember that great scene from Crocodile Dundee where he whips out his huge knife in New York City. Hopefully you are shaving with something not quite so big!
Best wishes!

Hey Teddi, I had a similar experience with a straight that I bought, the steel was too tough for me to hone with my limited experience so I sent it to a guy in QLD, and it's a lot easier to shave with now.
If you don't have any luck with a stop, I can put one together for you, either hanging or a paddle.
I'm going to need a bigger bathroom
