Thanked: 0Newbie from PA, USA
Hey all, just wanted to say hi. I started a few months ago when I became interested in straight razor shaving. I find myself coming back here for more tips as I continue to gouge myself with my own. I appreciate any input you have for any of my posts and for tolerating my newbie questions.
Info,
long time 3bladed razor shaver (and electric when in a real rush)
new dovo shavette user (3 mos)
have 6/8 Dovo fh masters ss
and 5/8 Dovo fh diamanté carbon
I find a big difference in all of them and am taking it slow, reserving srs for the weekends.

Welcome to the site!
Do you have a strop? It'll be universally recommended that you get one and learn to use it to maintain a nice edge on your razors.
Have they been professionally honed? there area quite a few people on here able to put a great edge for good price.
That diamant is the all black one? looks slicker than a patch of black ice.
I love the shavette, great to have if you are having some issues with the straights. Which blades have you used?

Thanked: 0I picked up a srd strop, have been hacking into it too much, learning curve on stropping for me has been steep. For the shavette I've been using merkur razors, I get about two shaves out of each blade before they degrade to what I would call your normal 3bladed Gillette shave.
I'm trying to focus on proper strop technique, but as much as the YouTube videos have helped, I have evidence that suggests I rush too much ( strop slices ). Lol.
I tend to like the 6/8 feel better, it has a heavier feel that agrees with me. The black diamanté is for when I master this better. Definitely a more flexible feel to the carbon that probably wouldn't matter except for the fact that it's different to me, I just need some hours on it.
I'd prefer they be spent cutting hairs instead of stropping poorly. I feel like I'm not getting the whole "wax on/wax off" thing.

Thanked: 250Welcome to REAL shaving and congratulations for ditching those abominations. As you gain experience you will find that straight shaving doesn't take that much more time and you will get a longer lasting shave. I was suckered into shaving with an electric lawn mower about six times in my life. Each and every time it was a disaster...........I must have been either nuts or drunk to do it.
