Hey gents my name is Bill I'm looking to get into the straight razor life surprised I haven't done it sooner being I'm a craftsman type of guy lol but none the less I'm here and from what I've researched already this is the place to start, thinking bout going with a dovo bq or prima in a 5/8 size for my first razor

Welcome to the forum. Nothing wrong with that 5/8 Dovo. Just make sure it has been honed by a professional and is shave ready. Your razor will appreciate it if you get a good strop. Meanwhile take a look at the Shave Of The Day forum and see the beautiful razors these guys shave with.

Given that choice I'd go with the Dovo best quality. The Prima Klang is extra hollow ground and somewhat harder to master (at least for me). I'd also look at the Ralf Aust 5/8, which I prefer over Dovo. Welcome!

Hi BATS1Dxc & welcome aboard. It looks like you have been checking things out already so I'm sure you have probably looked in the Library here already. If not, just ask. Harold is right about what he said. I would check out the Dovo, Ralf Aust & even Boker is a good razor. If you buy from Straight Razor Designs, you won't go wrong there. Lynn, owner of this forum is also an owner of SRD & he personally hones & strops each razor before it goes to its destiny. You will also have the option to upgrade to a better strop & if you do cut your strop too badly, you can order a new leather or linen for it. You can buy a razor/strop combo or the complete setup. I really like the Ralf Aust & hope to get one some day. It is of high quality like the others plus it's affordable. When you start stropping, you can practice with a butterknife to keep from damaging a nice strop or dulling a good edge. Check out Lynn Abrams video's on Youtube also. Any questions, just ask. It's such a pleasure to have you here. Good luck my friend.
