Thanked: 0Thanks everyone. I know I've got a long way to go and much to learn. I'll search around for the butter knife lesson. I think I am moving too fast. I did have a pretty good shave tonight, but don't think I'll be able to do my neck for a long time to come. This grasshopper must learn patience . . .

I cut (no pun intended) my shaving teeth on my dad's DE, The best advice I can give is this:
#1 Ditch the Canned Goop/Even the Van Der Hagen starter kit with a brush, bowl and soap will give you better shaves. (about $10)
#2 Forget Everything You Ever Learned with the disposables!
#3 Remember that only the weight of the razor is needed to shave using a DE OR a Straight
#4 Remember it's not a race! Take your time! If you shave before work get up 15-20 minutes earlier. If you can shave at night when you have more time, then do so!
Lastly let us know where in the Great State you are! I'm down here in Walla Walla. It's possible that there is an experienced member close to you who could help you!
Hang in there, with patience and practice it will come to you and you will enjoy those shaves!Last edited by cudarunner; 02-11-2016 at 09:57 PM.

Thanks Tc.
That's why I was saying..............."Also just be patient & take your time."
Sometimes people get too anxious & I know they just can't wait to try but those weepers will teach 'em in time. We all still get 'em sometimes but we try to help out the new guys so they don't butcher their faces up or we'll have to start a new thread, "The Butchered Face", in fact, I think I have seen a thread about people who have had some cuts whether it was from shaving or working on a blade. They have a learning curve & it's a lot different from those damn 4-5 bladed cartridge things I hate so much!

Thanked: 0Good point cudarunner, I'm in Monroe WA
Either my razor is not sharp enough or too light. The weight of the razor doesn't want to do any magic for me. Is it the pressure I'm putting into it that causes the burn? I was watching to keep a shallow angle as I read something about burning being cause buy using an angle over 30*Last edited by Slugger; 02-19-2016 at 02:28 AM.
