    Default Greetings from Detroit MI

    Hey all,
I've been loving the resources here. I've only been wet shaving for a couple months but have done pretty exhaustive research on every product that I've bought(I believe in getting value for value, and if I'm going to buy something sight unseen I need to spend a lot of time checking it out).
My family thought that I was completely crazy until I let them all get a whiff of Barrister and Mann Seville. That judgement has been downgraded to mostly crazy and generally harmless.
I just pulled the trigger on my first straight, a Ralf Aust, and am waiting with bated breath for its arrival.

Congrats on your move to straights and for your choice of an Aust razor. Your exhaustive research seems to be doing well for you. Has your research helped you pick a strop yet?

Hi Smattayu & welcome aboard. You are crazy but who isn't? Congrats on you Ralf Aust buy, You won't be disappointed. Research all you can. You're in the right place. Like Utopian mentioned, I hope you have researched getting a strop. You can use a butterknife to practice with at first so you don't cut your strop or dull the edge on that new Aust. Great to have you here.
    Good luck my friend.

I purchased an Illinois #127 a couple weeks ago and have been palm rubbing it daily and practicing a little with a butter knife since then. I figured that the 127 is nice enough to keep me happy for quite a while, but still inexpensive enough that I would only cry a little if I shred it due to overeager inexperience.

One never just cries a little bit when a strop gets hurt.

Exactly right! However, if you are careful and THINK before taking your first stroke, your strop will not get shredded. I know that I may be an anomaly, but I have never cut a strop.

Utopian, I hope to join you that seeming minority, but time will tell.
Ultrasoundguy, I've registered for the meet. I have bought a few products from them and have been thrilled with their service. I may take you up on your kind offer, but either way hope to see you in May.
Thank you all for your warm welcome. I've enjoyed lurking on these forums for a while, and am looking forward to contributing in the future
