Thanked: 1Newbie from Columbus Ohio. Love this forum!!! Great Information
Hi all. I'm new to straight razors and thought I've watched enough videos, read enough comments to make an informed decision on purchasing straight razors. Well until I started reading threads here at SRP I realized how much I need to learn. I'm sure I'm like many other and want to go to ebay and just buy razors that look fancy or have huge blades without doing the proper research. I think I got lucky on a couple purchases but wont really know until I get them honed.
After surfing threads I feel like I can make better choices. There is some great information that I've absorbed.
I have a bit of an addictive personality, and straight razors are proving to fall into that same addictive categories as my other hobbies. My fiancé thought it was a good idea and I may actually save money since I wouldn't have to buy replacement blades. Well I think she quickly found out that isn't the case. She is trying to gather a few (in secret) for a wedding gift. She thinks she is being sneaky, but I saw some purchases she made. She asked for some brand names I wanted and after a few strange questions I caught on. Gotta love that fact she would go to the effort she is for a hobby of mine.
I look forward to reading more threads and learning as much as I can. I also hope to become an active member in months to come. Thanks Bret

Thanked: 250Welcome to SRP. Once you learn the art of straight shaving you will never go back. Check out the Shave Of The Day forum for some beautiful razors and the shaving products we use. Since you have some razor purchases coming look at the Workshop forum for repair and maintenance ideas. Proper care and maintenance will make your razors last a life time and more.

Hi Bretcummings and welcome to the family!
You'll find this forum is a wonderful resource and community full of friendly people eager to help you with your journey in search of the perfect shave! It's also great to see more people in Ohio joining our group! I'm in the Springfield area and teach at Cedarville University, so not too far. You'll also want to check out this link, where several of us in Ohio have already chimed in and started to discuss a get-together : http://straightrazorpalace.com/membe...wbie-here.html
Finally, you have a great resource right at your doorstep: The Shave Shop @ Rivers Edge Cutlery in Columbus - half the store is shaving accoutrements and the other half is knives, miscellaneous blades of all kinds, and survivalist items - a man's playground! Instead of having to order samples or just read reviews and pull the trigger without first-hand experience, you'll be able to smell all kinds of soaps/aftershaves (and if you're nice, maybe talk them into a free sample to try at home for free... Shhhhh ), feel/see brushes, check out a limited number of straights (only Dovos for now, but hopefully they'll add to their stock), and finally: get your straight professionally honed without having to wait for shipping out/back until (if) you get into the stone rabbit hole yourself!
In any case, good luck and great shaves!Shaved by Grace

Thanked: 1Wow great information to know. I'll definitely be checking out both the local Ohio group and the shop. I figured I would have to send out the razors I've gathered so far It's great news. I sell furniture for a living so have strange work hours It would be nice to be able to meet others to have a sit and discussion session. Thanks again
