Thanked: 0Hello from London, UK
I thought I would come and say hello after reading the forum for a long time. I've not yet got into straight razor shaving but I've been tempted for ages. I end up getting close but end up getting hung up on what to buy ect.
Whats brought me me back on the idea was I got given my great grandfathers Straight which got me thinking about it all again. It would be nice to fine out a it more about the razor also and if it would be worth getting it restored. It looks like he may have had ago at giving it a clean up as you can see in the photos.
Again in hello and look forward to getting to know you all

Welcome! That is a very nice looking razor, from what I can see in the pictures there is not a lot that needs doing to it apart from a polish and hone.
since i posted my message, I see you have added more pictures to the thread. On second looking, the blade looks fine, needs a hone, but the scales are not in great condition. Jamie, Celticcrusader forum name, does very nice restorations and would look after your blade for youLast edited by Damo; 04-16-2016 at 04:52 PM.

Thanked: 1081Welcome to SRP jonesey.
That's a very nice hierloom you got there, you are a lucky man.
Here's some info on Joseph Elliot from SRP member Manah:

I dare say it will clean up easy enough.
All I can say is your razor has a wedge grind, the lack of England stamped on the tang means it pre dates 1900s and Sheffield steel, in my opinion, is the finest of all.
Once honed it will be a fine shaver indeed.

Hi Jonesy a very warm welcome to the SRP, nice razor looks like horn scales and at some point someone as tried to unpin the pivot, would be a good candidate for a restoration.

Hi and welcome. Definitely worth the restoration. If you do start with a sr get a cheaper less sentimental one to start with. You will make mistakes and wouldn't want to damage a heirloom razor. Good luck and if you need anything just ask
My wife calls me......... Can you just use Ed

Thanked: 0Thank you all for the welcome. I will be looking into getting the razor restored at some point and get a different razor to learn with. The only problem I'm having is finding somewhere in the UK that sells a good starter kit
