Hello from Middle Tennessee
Just wanted to poke my head in and say "hi". I've been wet shaving for about 3 1/2 years now, though it was with cartridge razors until about two months ago when I picked up my first DE. Well, a couple of days ago, I pulled the trigger and bought two sight unseen straight razors from Larry at Whipped Dog. I'm eagerly awaiting the arrival and my first attempt at not cutting myself into an unrecognizable mess.
Unlike some people, I didn't turn to wet shaving to solve any particular problems that I was having. I am just fascinated by the process and find relaxation and enjoyment in it.
One thing that concerns me is razor or brush acquisition disorder. That could become a problem given the myriad other acquisition disorders that I have: reptiles, metal band t-shirts, computers, dogs, ex-wives, etc. I fear this may end badly for me.
I'm also embarking on a quest to find shave soaps/creams that I like. I've been slogging away with Col. Conk's Bay Rum. I love the way it smells, but I can't seem to get that to lather consistently to my preference. I recently got Taylor of Old Bond Street Sandalwood and Mr. Taylor scents and those work really well. I'm not enamored of the sandalwood smell, though.
Wish me luck!
