    Perhaps if you had asked your question more succinctly you would have received a more direct answer. IE "I have a extra leather strop I would like to dress with chromium oxide paste,should I use the smooth side or the rough side?" Better yet READ the stropping forum and the SRP library as suggested. All the information is here if you just make the effort to read it.

    Yes the smooth side is the stropping surface. The rough side would likely damage the edge.
