Thanked: 1Hello from western NC.
Several months ago made the switch from Schick Quattro to and DE razor with shaving cream from The Art of Shaving. Was I not only surprised but greatly impressed wjth the quality of shave. Since then I decided to try a straight razor for a better shave. I purchased a shavette and am starting to get the hang of things. Anticipating the move to a real razor in the near future, there are several mfg.s to chose from. Would welcome suggestions.

Welcome to SRP from down the mountain!
If you want to go with a new straight, I'd recommend getting a starter kit from straight razor designs. Any of their razors will work great.
If you want to go vintage, then I'd get one from the classifieds of this sight - you are pretty much guaranteed it will be shave ready.

Thanked: 1I have looked at several kits from Straight Razor Design. Sort of leaning toward a 6/8 blade to big in with, thought that it would be easier to get the angle correct.

6/8 or 5/8 are both good sizes to start with. I would recommend getting one with a round end on it, your ears will thank you.
In my opinion, the Ralf Aust 5/8 is better than the Dovo 5/8, but both are great razors. For that matter, every razor that SRD seems to be great. Some people never go crazy. What truly horrible lives they must lead - Charles Bukowski

Hi and welcome. Can't go wrong with SRD. Hand honed means inspected as well so you know that you are getting a good razor. Any questions feel free to ask
