Thanked: 0Big Time Newbie
Hello all,
In March this year, I made the full jump from wet shaving with cart. razors, and shifted to using safety razors. So, I still have a lot to learn on that front as well, but have always had an interest with straights too. So, that brings me to here. And, as I'm sure you know, I am about as green as green gets when it comes to straight razors.
That said, I did win an auction for a razor on eBay yesterday, so obviously haven't received it yet. I'm hoping that I did alright with it, and can figure out all that I need to, to at least begin shaving with it.
Also, any help or info that anyone might have on the particular make/model of the razor would be appreciated.
It is stamped on one side with:
M. JUNG
NEW YORK
M.I. GERMANY
And on the other side, all I see is:
30
I've done a bit of research, but mostly seeing a bit of info pertaining to the M. Jung's marked with No. 80 on them.
Thanks much in advance for any info, and I look forward to being a part of your community.

Did the seller say that the razor had been honed? If not it may or may not be ready for shaving. If it's in good condition and not shaving well, I suggest sending it off to one of the folks here to have it honed. There are several - check the classified section.
Spend some time reading here before you shave with a straight - there is a learning curve that continues far past your first shave but it's well worth it. Welcome to SRP!

Thanked: 0Much thanks for the tips. No, the seller didn't mention anything about shave ready. I've done a bit of research, and assumed that I would likely have to have it honed up. Also going to have to invest in a strop as well.
I'm quite certain that there will be a big learning curve, but expect for it to be rewarding once I start to get the hang of it.
Thanks for the warm welcome as well!

Welcome to SRP!
Just go on and plan on sending it out to be professionally honed. Straights are much safer to learn and use when they are properly sharpened.
