Thread: Hello from San Jose, CA

Hi, I joined this forum about 4 years ago and am about to give straight razors another shot. I learned how to shave / used briefly and enjoyed the shaves but didn't like the blade upkeep. The past year I have gotten into knives and enjoy honing them so I'm excited to learn how to maintain my blades.

I just ordered a bunch of new stones, as well as a new strop and will likely use a straight tomorrow.

I have been active on other shaving forums, have lots of SE & DE razors, a few dozen brushes and at least 150 soaps.

Looking forward to the new adventure and this forum!

I still plan to use my other razors, but want to add straights to the mix. How often will be determined by my success

Nice progression, you are all set.

Some will say, you don’t need the 3k, and you don’t, but especially when learning, the stone that makes the transition from shaping to polishing really is important.

Just make sure the bevel is fully set, then remove all the 1k stria with the 3k and then each previous grit as you move up.
