Thanked: 2Hello from Toronto
Hello, lurker here.
Got interested in manually shaving after my electric shaver died (the one my dad gave me from so long ago).
Started looking for a cheaper solution, found safety razors, then saw straight razors and thought that looked cool (Yes, I realize straight razor shaving is not a cheaper solution).
So I got a disposable straight razor off of a hair stylist (they didn't need them after getting certified, apparently everyone failed the balloon test), Free!
Found a can of some shaving cream left by my brother, Free!
Did the cheek only thing, to get over the fear, and get comfortable.
Couple weeks, cuts, nicks later, I can manage a full WTG. (or at least some semblance of it)
Started following up with ATG for cheeks and side, but XTG for under chin (still trying to figure out how to go ATG under the chin).
Bought a brush and some soap when someone posted a Fendrihan link. Great shave after that.
I have a Dovo best quality on the way, will need to find a strop. (and possibly someone to hone it)
Seems Canada has limited sources for razors.. at least for a reasonable cost. Got the Dovo because someone was headed to the US. Will have to find out if the hair stylist has access to a supplier or something.

classicedge.ca was where I purchased my Dovo, came with a great edge. There are a few people in the great white north that should be able to hone 'er up for you though, if it isn't shave ready.
The classifieds here have reasonably priced razors, sometimes for as low as $30.

Hi and welcome. As said the classifieds or classicedge would be able to hone your razor. There are other reputable companies in Canada but names escape me. Sure others will come along with more names. Good luck and any questions feel free to ask. Try to make the meet or connect with locals they will be able to cut the learning curve for you.
My wife calls me......... Can you just use Ed

Thanked: 2284Val here at Gentleman's den does restoration and honing. He does fantastic work and hones a wicked edge.

I should also add that you should come to the GTA meet. You might walk away with a nice vintage, shave ready razor for free...... and learn a lot of info as well.Last edited by HARRYWALLY; 06-04-2016 at 02:23 AM.

Thanked: 4821Oh man there is nothing like a meet to accelerate the learning process. Welcome to the forum. There are a lot of straight razor resources in Ontario. A few other here and there but the bigger places to shop are very much in Ontario. There are a number of guys in Canada and on this forum that will likely hone your first razor for you for the cost of postage or less if you are close enough to meet up.

Thanked: 2Thanks for all the responses, I will have to take a look at the sites mentioned.
Unfortunately I will be away August 20, so I can't make the meetup.
