    Default Helo from Abilene, Texas

Hey I'm more of a face book guy but I just got into straights about 3 weeks ago I have a shave ready razor and a strop. Just looking for info to learn and progress in the hobby. I'm slowly leaving de's and have sold off more then I currently have. I started wet shaving in November of 2015. Said forget no shave November. And cancelled my dollar shave club membership. I am new father my baby was born in late April. Money is tight but I'm trying. I work at a insurance company so clean shaven isn't much of a option. I have purchased some hones under the brand Weiwei and I saw a thread here about them that's why I joined to ask the guy about them. But either way I purchased them last week so if they work will be happy. But I know as with any hobby this won't be the only set of stones I will ever buy. But with a new child my purchases have almost stopped. I have super sensitive skin. Soaps like b&m burn. Stirling burns. And even some vegan soaps burn. I guess it depends on the ingredients. I enjoy soap commander and Mason Boutique. I am in a group called the tlshave market and we are doing 30 consecutive straight shaves. I am on my 11/30 and it has been a wonderful experience. I have Lyn Abrams videos and am a subscriber. I apologize for grammar errors . Typing on a phone is all I'm working with right now in regard to access to the site . Hope all is well! We prayed for rain in texas. And man are we getting it.

    Welcome to the forum!

I am not familiar with your hones, but if you get the hone itch, a norton 4k/8k combination or naniwa 5k and 8k hones will treat you very well.

I am finding that most aren't. That can be a bit scary though. I bought 1/4 k 8k and 10k for around 60$ USD so it was cheaper then the Norton but I'm afrade it maybe just that. But we will see! I definitely do have the itch just not the cash! As of now I have sold allot of my de's when my son was born to cover some expenses. But I'm sure in time I will accumulate allot. My next stone will be the ILR
I have heard great stuff about them .

It's worth a shot I suppose. Just make sure they're lapped. I prefer 3m 320 grit sandpaper from home depot. It's in a purple package and the sandpaper is red. PM me if you need some.

A loupe and youtube videos by gssixgun and lynn abrams will help a lot. From there it's determining pressure needed, that's more of a based on the razor issue

If you want to send me some that's awesome! I was planning on next payday trying to find me some. I know some of the vids recommend by a square tile also. Do you use one?

Hi and welcome. A 1, 4, 8 and 10 k hones should see you with a good shaving edge. Till you can get good shaves from them I wouldn't worry about more hones. There are a couple members in Texas might be a good idea to see if there is someone close who could help you out. Good luck and any questions feel free to ask
