    Default New guy from Chicago

    Hello everyone,

I'm total noob in SRS,been a DE shaver for about 3 years now..Got a vintage from Larry (whipped dog) last week and have had couple of shave with SR, used MWF with Semouge 630 boar brush.
I'm pleasantly surprised that I have not had a big cut/nicks to start with but then also I'm not getting close shave at all.To be honest it is far from it,I think perhaps my blade angle is too vertical or Could it be I'm not putting enough pressure ?
When I shave with SR, it is pulling my hair a lot , looking for insight on what all could I be doing wrong?

    Thanks.

First off, welcome to srp! A sharp straight will glide through your facial hair given correct technique. Somethings to consider, is your skin being pulled tight, is your contact angle fifteen degrees (about two to 1.5 spine widths from your face). Also you shouldn't need to put pressure on your face, you are essentially shaving the lather from your face and the hair goes with it, also use short strokes (not one stroke from top top bottom). Stropping is another technique sensitive step, to much pressure will dull the edge not enough and nothing is happening.

I am certain you can find someone in your area who can show you some of the technique in person. If that seems like it isn't your style then there is plenty videos and articles that could help. Using a straight is a skill that we all had to work at, practice and patience are key. Good luck and hope this is somewhat helpful.

Hi and welcome. Coming from Larry it's unlikely the razor is the issue. Most likely poor stropping or too high an angle. Start with the razor against the skin and slowly raise till it feels right. Stretching the skin is also important for a good shave. As said you want totje razor to just glide over the skin and let it get the hair. Don't use pressure or your face will end up feeling like it's on fire from the razor burn. Good luck and any questions feel free to ask

I just posted about a meet at my place, Aug 13th.

If you can't make it, let me know and we can set up something on a different date.
