Thanked: 0New Guy from Virginia
My Name is Dustin Dodge, still new to the straight razors. I have owned a DOVO Shavette for about a year now and recently just purchased a Wester Bros De Fi 34 off eBay. Been looking into different types and brands lately. Still gonna be a few months before I will be able to use it though. I decided to get this razor due to the fact that when I Googled it, it came up with this site with a few people stating that they really enjoy the razor. This site seems very insightful as well as helpful to anybody, so hoping I get to meet some people to kinda help me out with straight razors as well as upkeep for them.

Hi and welcome aboard. You have come to the right place for help. The razor looks in good condition so now you need to get it honed and get a strop. The library is great for all the basics and any questions feel free to ask

Thanked: 0i figured this was the right place, every time i Googled something about a Razor this site always showed up. I was looking in the equipment section earlier and someone posted about a strop fro Illinois Strop Company, figured that would be a good strop to start with, after I get back home and send it off to get honed.

Just make sure you use a razor honer and not a knife sharpening service. The Illinois strops are a good no frills strop and will be fine for learning on.

Thanked: 433Wester Bros are usually very nice, I've had a few and they all took a great edge.
When you get the strop, practice with a dull razor shaped object (butter knife etc) for awhile to build some muscle memory and to get the flip motion correct.

Those are GREAT razors. They take an easy, sharp, and smooth edge. I've had a few and they have been some of my favorites.
What a curse be a dull razor; what a prideful comfort a sharp one
