Thanked: 0Making the leap to straight razors
I've wanted to get a straight razor for years now. Well, I finally bought a few last weekend at a vintage market (flea market) last weekend in Grand Rapids. I bought a Red Injun #100, a Wade & Butcher, and a Crown & Sword. I'm looking forward to restoring and using them.

Welcome to SRP. Sounds like a nice haul, should make for some good projects and great shavers. If you run into snags during the resto process this place is full of great info on the topic, tons of knowledge around here. Good luck and happy shaving.

This has all the answers for everything you are about to do. If you need clarification please ask. There are currently two good work in progress threads.

They are both pretty informative and have little gleams of outstanding information here and there.
Do yourself a favor and either get them honed or go to a meet to learn the ins and outs of honing. It is easy to rub a razor on a rock but to get to the true shave ready takes a little while. Starting with blades honed by people who can really do a bang up job will make the learning to shave portion so much easier, and working on a blade and then honing them is not really regular honing but more part of restoration. There is a reason that straight razor shaving has been the gold standard since 1876.It's not what you know, it's who you take fishing!
