Thanks everyone, upon closer inspection the chip is in the edge. It is not big but enough to ruin my strop and my face if I use it. It will be going back to be corrected.

In the meantime I have convinced Mrs Porl that a backup razor is required for instances such as this that should be with me tomorrow.

I used my DE razor this morning and I have to say got the best shave I have had with it. I can only put that down to three weeks of shaving with a straight has taught me what a light touch really means. Needless to say I can't wait to get back to straights now just to see how good it can get. I know I still have a long way to go, but this morning's shave albeit with a DE has encouraged me to push on.

Hi Paul & welcome to SRP. Sorry I'm late for the party. I thought I replied to this yesterday because I remember reading your post but I get sidetracked a lot. I see you have had a lot of good advice. It sounds like it needs a honing, possibly just a light honing. You may want to get you a second straight razor just in case one is out being honed, you still have one to shave with or if one had an accident like dropping it, bumping into the faucet accidentally or likewise.
Most women have lots of shoes & clothes so if your wife is also like that, you can tell her it is a necessity. You can mention in a nice set way that if she can have all of the things she needs, makeup included, that you can certainly have some straight razors.
I hope you have someone near you that can be of some help. I have a friend who lives on that side of the pond & he does a lot of honing. You may want to contact him, Jamie aka celticcrusader. You might want to contact him. He lives in Wales.
    Great to have you here.
    Good luck my friend.
