    Default Hello from Northern Virginia!

    Hi Folks!

Been wet shaving for about two years and recently added a Feather SS to the mix. That started me thinking about straight razors and I stumbled upon a brick and mortar store carrying a few razors including this gem:

Size: 13.9 KB

Didn't know what I want looking for at first so it was nice to be able to hold a few Razors and I knew this was the one when I picked it up.

It's made by Shave Smith and features carbon steel blade held in Micarta scales.

Now on the prowl for a good strop (the store said it was honed by Shave Smith on a 30k). I'm opened to suggestions!

I've started reading thru the liberty and am hungry for more knowledge!

Anyone got tips for a newbie?

Welcome to SRP. Also from NOVA, down by Lorton. You are on the right track reading and researching this amazing SRP knowledge center. Your questions have probably already been asked by those who have gone before you. Lots of searcable info. If you can't find an answer lots of mentors out there to assist you and point you in the right direction. My tip is to start with a cheap strop, since you will probably cut it, (we have all done that ) before moving on to a more expensive strop. Lots of good ones out there new and used. Welcome again! Austin

In the end it will be okay.
If it's not okay, it's not the end.

Hi and welcome. There are plenty of decent cheaper strops available if you do a search plenty of information. If you do want quality something like the SRD ones with replacement pieces is the best option. Once you are done learning and nicking just pop in a replacement. Good luck and any questions feel free to ask
My wife calls me......... Can you just use Ed

I was actually looking at the paddle strop with the modular pieces from SRD. Too bad it's sold out...

Welcome. Check out the "Library" section...lot's of good stuff. SRD will most likely have some in stock shortly. They have pretty quick turn around on restocking (especially the items that are they're own line). They're doing a update to the website today so it maybe down. Not sure I haven't checked the site today.

Lynn, sounds like you're losing business here. Better get on stocking those shelves!

Welcome to the forum. You will not go far wrong with a paddle strop, it's how I started. I also started with a 3" wide strop in order to mitigate the need for using the X pattern. You can come to that later once you have the technique down. Take your time and have fun.

Got a modular paddle strop from SRD with some more pads.

    Can't wait to try it!
