Hello from Michigan
While clearing out the in-laws house I came across a couple straight razors. So naturally I took them home, sharpened them just like I sharpen my very sharp pocket knives, and shaved! ..... and the result was only marginally better than if I had shaved with one of my pocket knives. So one week later, I've been reading/watching internet stuff about SR shaving. Today was the begining of my do over. I bought an old Sheffield SR from a local dealer and successfully shaved my face. I have a long way to go regarding technique but I am committed to learning how to do this. So I am looking forward to learning from you folks. Any tips ,hints, or suggestions will be appreciated.
I'm feeling more like I did this morning than I do now.

Welcome to the group
First there is tons of info in the library lots of great reading, second razors as you have found out do not sharpen like knives. Also yes technique will come in time in the mean time read, read, read and ask questions. The gents on here are a wealth of knowledge and super helpful and friendly, also it may not hurt to add your location this way maybe you can easily find a mentor which will help save you time and trouble. But best of luck and enjoy the ride this is a great way to learn to shave and it is an excellent experience!

Hi and welcome aboard. As said start in the library and beginners forum for a lot of the basics. If looking on YouTube check out Gssixgun and Lynn Abrams. Both have good videos on starting out and honing razors. This will take a bit of practice before you get it right but is well worth the effort and a good luxury for yourself as well. Good luck and any questions feel free to ask we always want to help beginners get shaving properly.

Hello, handyman. Welcome to Straight Razor Place!
This is the all around best video I have seen on learning to shave.
I guess I'll echo previously stated advice...start out with a pro-honed razor, or two, and give the SRP library and credible youtube videos a good going over, don't hesitate to ask questions.

Well, you are on my front porch. PM me if you need some help, samples, or just to get together. You could also try out some other blades of mine to get a feel for what you might like. If you have already been to Adrian (Maggards), then you know how much your wallet can be in danger
