Thanked: 0Hello from New York City
In my quest to use a straight razor and not permanently scar or kill myself I found this forum. I have always enjoyed a good straight shave at my barbershop and finally decided to give it a try myself.
So far my Dovo shavette, purchased at Pastuer's Pharmacy in NYC has provided quite the experience. I looking forward to learning from those who have gone before me, trudging the road of happy destiny.

Welcome to SRP, now the fun begins.
Couple of quick tips.
Prep and Lather well.
Stretch skin that your about to shave.
Try to keep blade angle as low as allowable by your blade of choice.
Do not use pressure, keep it light.
Under no circumstances make any lateral or sawing motions on your face.
Do this and nothing too terrible will happen.Don't drink and shave!

Also, keep your hands relatively dry so you don't drop your razor.

Shavettes are more finicky than straights regarding angle and pressure, and will bite you much quicker. If you can manage a good shave with those, regular straights will be an easy transition for you. Welcome to SRP.

Yep, thats true. Mastering a shavette will make a Str8 much more easier to use.
@pofo: I'll be on a week trip to NYC all the way from Hamburg, Germany, starting next week, and am planning to going to Pasteur's. I've done some windowshopping via google and am really looking forward to it. Enjoy your journey in Wetshaving.
Best Wishes
