Default Hello from Southern California, Ventura County

Hello to SRP from Southern California, Ventura County. I've been shaving with straight razors for 4 weeks now. Done all the usual things, bought a higher quality razor (Dovo Black Star) than my intro-razor Gold Dollar, bought various PAA Aftershaves and several shave soap/creams. Had both razors professionally honed to 30k, bought a 16k Shapton and strop to keep the razors cutting well. Cut myself once, week 4, minor cut. Safe to say I'm traveling down a road previously traveled. I'm enjoying every step.

Welcome aboard Steve, it's pleasure to have you here at SRP. You may have not noticed yet but there is a wealth of information here. Have you gone to the Library above & checked out the Beginners Guide? That is the best place to start & it will help you along your newly acquired shaving technique. If you get to something you don't understand, just ask.
The 16k should keep your razors nice & sharp. I hope you lapped it first because hones don't come lapped. Some might come close to being flat but most of the time, they must be lapped & you will need a lapping plate if you don't have one yet. They can range in price. Many people use DMT's, Atoma's or similar because they are affordable.
    Good luck my friend

    Engine46,
Thanks for the response and suggestion right out of the gate. Yes, I had the stone lapped and camphored on the edges. I've since bought a DMT lapping plate and will lap the stones (1,000, 4,000 and 8000) that will arrive shortly. I'm all in as they say.
    All the best,
    Steve
