Hey Everyone,
I have been using one of those straight razors that use those disposable half double blades and have become very proficient in its use. I am a Certified Chef and know my way around sharpening knives. I just recently bought a Gold Dollar 209 razor because of its good reviews and the fact that it was an inexpensive shave ready razor. I know that I will probably have to work the edge to make it perfect, But I was not gonna spend a good amount of money on a Dovo or its equivalent only to damage the blade.

Welcome to SRP!!!
Honing a straight and honing a knife use different techniques.
Watch a lot of videos and ask a million questions.
Good luck in your straight razor adventures!
Is it over there or over yonder?

Hi and welcome. Unless your gd razor was honed by someone before selling it will not be shave ready. Shave ready for razors starts at 8000k stones. Do read the library and do some searches about the gd razors here. You will find plenty of information. Any questions feel free to ask we are always happy to help
My wife calls me......... Can you just use Ed

Welcome to SRP!
The Gold Dollar doesn't have the best reputation around here. As long as you got it from someone that put some work into it and knows what they're doing, it should work well enough to learn with.B.J.
