    Default Hello from California

    Hell everybody.

I am Tom from California. A little about myself. Have been wet shaving for 4 years. 1-1/2 of serious wet shaving. I have now found myself drawn to Straights. So here I am to sop up all I can.

Right now I have 3 beater straights I am learning on. Boker "pearl", Eagle and a Paul Eduard wich was my great uncles.

I have a Russian straight 1953 incoming that is in very nice shape. I also have A NOS French near wedge coming in.

I have been preacticing honing with my wedge SE Blades and my 3 beaters. I have a Naniwa setup 220,1k,3k,8k&12k.

    That is about it.

    Welcome from NC!

You covered a lot of issues but let me try to start some advice comments. You can probably store the 220 stone unless one of your beaters is worse than any I have seen. I go to the 1000 bolt to bevel set. You didn't mrbtion a way to Lapp or flatten your Naniwas. I and many others use a DMT 325 -- D8C - Coarse Grit (325 grit).

IF you haven't used a SR before, but have the rest of the wet shaving routine down, send at least one of your razors to a pro honer who can be found in the classifieds here on SRP. Then you will have a reference for "sharp", also know as "shave ready".

That's it! Others will chime in with more sophisticated advice. I'm about 3 years in and still a beginner.

    Thanks for the suggestions.

I have a Naniwa flattening stone. And a granite surface plate that I use 320 wet dry paper on to get them flat with.

I plan on sending my French razor out once I receive it.
