Thanked: 0Tarheel428 says: Good day to ya.
Thank you so much for this helpful place on your site!
I love all the helpful guides and videos/ instructions you all have here.
I have never seen it's equivalent anywhere!
I am new to straight shaving, been using a safety razor for last 5 years,
(When all the other razors & refills started requiring a second mortgage to purchase), I purchased a new Dovo Best straight razor and tried a few areas like you recommended with fairly good success. Now I took a chunk out of my chin and am stalled here. ( maybe a little gun-shy I guess.)
Anyway thanks for your site and hello to all your contributing Experts for their suggestions & ideas.

Hello and welcome! The chin is the most difficult part for almost everyone. It may be best for you to not try the chin for a while. Get comfortable everywhere else first. There's lot of good info in this thread that you may find helpful.
Chin is hard to master!
As always, do feel free to ask questions. There are several experts here who enjoy helping people.

you must go slow and steady if you wish to win this race. just step back and do the cheeks for a while till your really comfortable and then take other sections as you improve, finish with your DE, it takes months, most are to impatient, but those who are will be rewarded.
on the chin, it is a challenge, but not too bad after you get a good feel for the blade and your stretching skills, also who honed your blade? dull blades don't make for good results. I take it you can make a good lather if you've been doing this for 5 years so that part is good.
there is plenty of guys in Ohio, maybe narrow down your location with a town so they can help, good luck and go slow TC“ I,m getting the impression that everyone thinks I have TIME to fix their bikes”

Hello and welcome
I suggest you do as I and others have done, grow a goatee until you are more proficient with a straight.
If you keep at it you will get better

Hi, welcome and good to have you here. Like TC said, nothing wrong with using the straight and DE for a while. Keep at it!

Hi and welcome. Nicking yourself is pretty par for the course in the beginning. Let it heal and just take it slow. Settle for a lesser shave or finish with the de till your technique develops. Good luck and any questions feel free to ask

Leave the chin alone for a while. One day you will attempt it again, have success and wonder how it was so easy.
