Thanked: 0Quick Intro
Hello, My name is Andy and I started straight razor shaving a few months ago. Bought a Gold Dollar kit to try, and have graduated to a Dovo Ebony razor, vulfix super badger brush, B&B boar brush, and Tim Miller strop. Now also dusting off my honing skills with a nortons kit from Whipped Dog on the Gold dollar. I was fortunate enough to find a long time razor restorer local to me who ensured my Dovo was shave ready and also went over a few tips on lapping on my strop.
I have my sights set on a Thiers Issard next..once it is back in stock.

I am pretty new to straight razors even though I have been shaving for 50 years. Although many folks on this forum hate any razor not made in the USA or Western Europe, a properly honed GD can give you a BBS shave, just don't expect it to be a family heirloom. It is a great razor to develop your honing skills as you aren't out much if you destroy it.
In addition to GD, I am using a Boker Silver Steel extra-hollow grind, great razor. I am also expecting a Ralf Aust w/ blackwood and a Dovo Bismark in my Christmas stocking. There should also be a Tony Miller strop under the tree. I too would like to pick up a TI when they are back in stock, perhaps a 6/8" Bison with Stamina scales. I like options, as do most of the members of this forum.
Many of the members on this forum have chronic cases of razor acquisition disorder, hone acquisition disorder, brush acquisition disorder, etc. It sounds like you are well on your way. However, I understand that if you call it a hobby, it is no longer a disorder. So enjoy your new hobby. There are many forum members, both old and new that can help you along your journey.

Welcome to the forum. Sounds like you are doing everything right so far.
Make sure to use no pressure when shaving and have a good look round the beginners section.
