Thanked: 0Hi from Connecticut
Hi guys I'm from North haven Connecticut. I have been shaving with a safety razor for over a year. I just got a straight razor for Christmas from my brother. It's a gold dollar kit. I have been shaving with it a bit. I know that it's going to take time to get it right. The only thing that I find that it's not as sharp as I thought it would be? What should I do thanks

From what I understand, most have geometry problems, and can be remedied, and made to shave. But you would be better off finding a true shave ready razor, here in the classifieds.
That is...unless you know how to hone!!
By the way... Welcome.!!
Glad to have you aboard.
Kick your shoes off, relax, soak it all in, and take a look around in the classifieds.Mike

Hi and welcome! Lots of good information and great folks here. You will benefit from finding a straight razor that is truly shave ready so that you become familiar with the feeling and can compare subsequent shaves to that. A lot of great straight razors came out of Connecticut, you know. I'm partial to Northfields myself having lived there for a few years when I was a kid.

Welcome aboard. You asked the right question and imo have received the correct answer, buy from a reputable seller of shave ready razors. I'm not knocking your brothers gift but gold dollars are just not a way for someone just getting into straights to go. They generally do have geometry issues and as stated they can be corrected but why chase your tail if you don't have to? Best of luck and ask away at any thing you are wondering about.

Hi and welcome. You may also find the razor is sharp just that you haven't developed enough technique with a straight yet. Good luck with your shaves
