Thanked: 0Hello everyone
Hey everyone I was told to join this group by a friend of mine as I am new to wet shaving and know the minimum about what I need and what to do. I have a shavette that I have been practicing with for a couple months and just got an actual straight so any advice and tips would be greatly appreciated thanks in advance

Hi. Welcome to Straight Razor Place!
Watch Lynn's videos, particularly this one in the link. He covers some of the differences between a straight razor and a shavette.

Welcome Chaywood, be sure to check out the library. Lots of great advice and knowledge there. As far as tips go, take your time. No need to rush, rushing will cause frustration and injury. Learn from every set back and push on. Ask questions, there are no stupid questions. Best of luck sir.

Welcome to SRP Chaywood18!
The first thing that I would try to do is have your new straight razor looked at and checked for being shave ready. Many sellers claim to have shave ready razors, but in fact they're not even close. I've found this to be true even of razors from the store at the mall. You should list your location with your avatar and seek local help. You may have some experienced people very close by. There is a section on the home page in the left column titled local help. Start your search there. Use the library. You'll be surprised how much that you will learn in a one on one meeting. As said above, watch Lynn's video at least once. Watch as many others as you can. Practice unfamiliar razor strokes with a butter knife and learn what works and what doesn't for you. Take your time and stay in your comfort zone while your shaving. Finally, ask questions, get involved with the forum and enjoy yourself!
