Thanked: 1Greetings from the Great White North
Hello everybody, I'm from Eastern Canada and have just started delving into wet shaving. I have been using a DE razor for a little bit. I have recently become interested in using a straight razor when I happened to come into possession of my great-grandfather's straight razors. I have no idea if they are worth restoring or if I should just purchase a different razor that is ready to use from elsewhere, but I thought I would include some pics. I know nothing about them, but am looking forward to learning about shaving with a straight razor.

From the pictures, it appears that both razors with the square point have cracks. If that is the case, then I would say the king cutter in the middle is the only one worth restoring.
It looks like it is in decent shape and if you send it someone reputable, I am sure it can be made into a fine shaver. I believe there might be a few east coast members on this forum that might be able to help you out.
Welcome and enjoy this great hobby.

Thanked: 2284Welcome to the forum.
Those are fantastic blades, only one problem. I'm noticing that you may have cracks in blades 1 and 3, right by the heels of the blades. If they are indeed cracks, they are most likely not shave worthy. That being said, hang onto them anyways because, after all, they are your great grandfathers.
Now razor number 2 on the other hand looks to be a promising shaver, and one of my most favourite blade makers. A Boker King Cutter. This one is a keeper and could be cleaned and made into a fantastic shaver. In my opinion you should have it professionally cleaned and honed, and then hang onto it. Get another razor and learn to shave with it. This way any mistakes you might possibly make wont ruin your Grandfathers razor. Once you become proficient with a straight, bust out old granddads blade and have at it!Burls, Girls, and all things that Swirl....

Thanked: 1Thank you all very much for the warm welcome! I will definitely look into the Buy/Sell/Trade section here, as I will most likely end up picking something up to start with. As has been pointed out, it does appear 1 and 3 sadly, have cracks. However, I am happy to know that blade 2 is salvageable. It appears there is a vast wealth of knowledge here and I am excited to learn and make mistakes along the way!

Hello and welcome from icy Iowa! So sad 2 blades have heel cracks but #2 looks like its salvageable for sure. Send it out to be restored and you are in business. There are lots of great people on here to help and lots of knowledge. SRP b/s/t is a great safe place to find a shave ready blade. Good luck and feel free to ask questions.

Thanked: 4826There are quite a few Canadians here. The buy sell trade forum is not a bad spot to get a razor. There are meets in the Toronto area periodically and often in Alberta as well. I have no idea why we don't meet in BC but that is the way it is. Meets are a great place to learn all aspect and at all levels. Take one in if you can. There is also an E-store in Ontario that does a good job of shave ready straights if you ar looking for a new blade. Classic Edge is the name of the shop. There are a few more places to get soaps and brushes in Canada too.
