Thanked: 14Hi from South Korea I have been lurking but decided it is time to introduce myself
Hi
I live in Korea but I am an American. I started straight razor shaving about 1 1/2 years ago with a Whipped Dog sight unseen special. I have been 'traditional shaving' for four years now.
I finally arrived to straight shaving because of the irritation and ingrown hairs the carts gave me. With each new blade they added the worse my shave got, finally one day I asked myself why pay so much for so much misery. I thought the carts were expensive because I was in Korea but when I went back to the US I saw they were crazy expensive in the US too.
Logically the next step was to do something completely different and I thought straight razors are cool and macho, so my research began. After reading about all the maintenance required I thought it was beyond me so I started with a DE. As I worked my way through my DE journey I found I have a strong preference for aggressive DEs. But I never lost my fascination with straights.
I made the bad assumption that I should start with a shavette. I bought a cheap DE shavette and on the first shave I cut myself but good. So back to the DEs. I noticed that one of the reasons I preferred aggressive razors is because you can adjust the angle and change the aggression. So my research on straights intensified and finally I took the plunge, bought a Whipped Dog and got busy.
I am a daily shaver and 5 of 7 shaves are now with a straight. It took the mystical 100 shaves to become proficient with a SR. I have 12 razors now, mostly modern large blades like PRC, Hart Steel, Koraat and Dovo.
I tried to post here in the past but for some reason I would always get blocked when I tried to log in, likely because I have a Korean IP. I have resolved the problem. I noticed some of my friends are so I decided to start participating.
So, it is nice to meet you.
Keith
