    Default Hello from Sheffield, UK

I thought it was time I registered on here, I've been lurking a long time...
Some of you will know me from other forums, I've been collecting just Sheffield made razors for a couple of years, but more seriously since last summer. Living to the north of Sheffield I have a passion for these locally made razors.
I started to shave with them last summer and find myself using them exclusively now. My collection of vintage Gillettes rarely see water, I do like to have them in my collection.
I'm still a learner on the honing front, I'm able to get a decent edge on them now and improving all the time.
Good to be here and hopefully join in the fun

Welcome to the forum. Can't blame you for collecting Sheffie razors being close to the source. Do you often find some of the lesser known makers blades being so close?

To be honest Bob, finding razors locally is hard. I go round the antique places and most say they don't get them in like they used to. They're mostly sold on line now...
90% of my collection was bought on the usual auction site. I had a small collection given by an old chap I work for, they were his fathers.

I had a suspicion that even being close to a source of production might not be as helpful in collecting as one would think. At least there is that auction site that makes collecting on a global scale possible increasing the chances of finding sought after items.

Hi Brian! Hello from L.A., and welcome to the forum. I collect Sheffields too, but alas, I've never made it across the pond. So far I've got four Joseph Rodgers, two MAB's, two Frederick Reynolds, a W&B, a Higgins, and in fact I just acquired a Taylor Eye Witness "The 3000" yesterday... isn't she a beauty? I can't wait to get it in the post. I was just reading up on the history of Taylor's earlier. You must be close to the factory... I read that it's believed to be the only traditional works in Sheffield which still manufactures its original products. Your avatar looks like it could be a historical cutlery factory itself. Someday I want to visit and see all these places for myself!

    Thanks your Taylor's is a beauty, I have 4 Taylor's razors, 2 of them 5/8" 1000's.
The old works on Milton street are empty and out of use. They are grade 2 listed but so far they haven't been restored.
Taylor's work from a modern factory unit.
My avatar is the old Wheatley Brothers factory on John street this is in use by Thomas Meldrum & Co, making tools.
There's a few old works still standing, you can take a virtual tour on google earth/ street view.
