Thanked: 0Hi from Colorado!
Hey everyone,
I've been wet shaving with a safety razor for some time, but am still a straight virgin ... (ha?) .... I've recently inherited two straight razors from my late grandfather, who inherited them from his father. As a knife-making veteran, I've always been intrigued by straight razors but have had minimal success making them. I figure this is a great time and opportunity to learn razor restoration, technique, and eventually, crafting.
In addition I'm a cigar and bourbon aficionado, and enjoy archery, shooting, and martial arts in the little spare time I have between work and graduate school.

Welcome, looks like your in the right place.
Check out the workshop, lots of restoration threads in there, probably everything imaginable is covered in there. There's plenty in the library as well.Mike

Welcome to SRP!!
A lot of great folks and info here. The library is a great place to start getting educated. As well as Lynn's videos on straight razor shaving
The family heirlooms are awesome to have, but not the best of places for a beginner to start.
Read around an ask some questions.
Enjoy and have fun!!!Look sharp and smell nice for the ladies.~~~Benz

Thanked: 0Thanks! I'll definitely be picking up some cheap blades at shops around to practice before I try to work on my pieces.

Welcome to SRP! Lots to learn here in the Forum and the Library, plus if you live near enough to Denver, I would highly recommend you attend their next shave meet-up. You can really learn a lot from the more experienced guys meeting them in person more quickly than you would do on your own. Have fun!

Good to meet you fellow rockies guy. You should be sure to go to the meet and greet in Denver. I've been to one of them and it was a great time. Lot of learning and sharing of skills. And if you want to learn to forge your own some day, they are a couple guys in Denver area that do this too.
Welcome to the forum. Pull up a chair and start reading everything in the library. Great info to help you get started.
Now, how about some pics of the family razors? It's just Sharpening, right?
