I do indeed come over that side of the channel as my brother lives in Belgium (near Tienen)

Thanks to everyone for the warm welcome and advice so far! It is greatly appreciated. The razor does indeed come 'shave ready' so I will be (slowly) practising my stropping. Although, again, I have read that it's a good idea to practise with something like a butter knife so I will give that a go until the razor arrives.

Sounds like your making a good start. Quality razor (if indeed shave ready) cheep strop (as you will cut it to pieces) and practice stroping slow with a smooth butter knife. All good things. I recommend you have two razors. So when one goes out for service you have a backup to keep going. Practice is needed and when you start to skip shaving for days to get a honning done you loose practice.
Welcome the SRP, take it slow and remember that you really dont start getting decent at S.R. shaving until you have 100+ shaves done. So just keep it up and soon it will all click.
    It's just Sharpening, right?

Hi and welcome. As said check that the razor is hand honed by the vendor. Many say shave ready but it is from the factory and they are not what most would shave with. There is a big difference between able to shave and shave ready. Good luck and any questions feel free to ask
My wife calls me......... Can you just use Ed

Unfortunately I don't have the most prolific of hair growth. I generally only need to shave every three or four days so it's probably going to take me a very long time to get any good at it........

Hey, don't feel bad, I'm the same way! And I'm 31. Hence my signature . So that "100 shaves" benchmark takes us three times as long.
