Thanked: 39Hi Everyone!
Hi SRP! I just wanted to introduce myself and say hello. I'm a new straight razor shaved from NY who started wet shaving with a DE roughly 6 months or so ago.
I've had about 4 or 5 SR shaves so far and I'm slowly but surely improving my technique and getting a marginally better result each time.
I'm glad to be part of the forum and I am eager to be a part of this community and learn whatever I can. Any advice more experienced shavers have is always welcomed.
Thanks very much!
Matt

Thanked: 634Welcome Matt
Take it slow. Master one area of the face at a tome. Practice stropping with a butter knife. Keep your razor Dry after use.
Check the library. Plenty of info. Ask questions.
Post a photo of razor brush and strop. Was the razor professionally honed? That is one of the most important things for a beginner.
I came from Astoria Queens then lived 35 miles SW of Albany for over 30 years.
Lots of luck.

Welcome aboard Matt. It takes time to get proficient at using a sr. It took me about three months before I was doing a good consistent shave every time. I'm still at about five months of using a sr, so the shaves still aren't quite perfect. But they are getting there. The best advice I can give you is to practice without distractions, as they lead to cuts a lot easier. make sure you have a professionally honed razor. And take your time, if you find yourself distracted, getting frustrated or feeling rushed finish up with the de. Read up in the library and ask questions, there's always people here willing to help. Good luck on your progress Matt.
