I think that straight razor honing is complex and maybe an art form. Considering all the factors, shape, size, metal composites.
Therefore an amazing edge is not guaranteed unless the honer applies real effort and understanding.
At least in some cases..

Welcome to the forum.
Are you sure that the chips are a result of the honing process?
I would think if they specialise in razors they should know what they are doing.
I would also think that they would have some kind of guarantee of their work too, so maybe a trip back to them might not be out of order.
My first question is based on the fact that when I started out I actually chipped my blade more than once by rinsing it off in the sink. There are lots of things to touch it against and that is all it takes. I now wipe my blades on a sponge and have had no further issues.
Good luck and enjoy the journey.Fact: Opinions are not the same as facts... Well, that's my opinion anyway

Hi and welcome aboard. Would be worth while checking to see if there a local mentor or someone who can help you access the razor and help with learning to hone if you want to go that route. For a chippy edge you will need to reset the bevel so local help is going to greatly reduce the learning curve. Good luck and any questions feel free to ask

Thanked: 3215It is a straight razor with no history. The company has been making double edge razor for a while, but apparently straight razors are a new venture.
As others have found, making a good production straight razor is tougher than stamping out knives, or… double edges…
Since you are dealing with a distributor, take it back. Ask it the folks working on your razor, if they shave with straight razors.
It is not uncommon for new razor to be too hard to hold an edge. I did notice in all their advertisement, there are no positive reviews on any of their straight razors.
What made you choose, that razor as your first razor?
As said it is a bit pricy for a production razor of unknow quality. You could have picked up a couple pristine vintage razors for the same money.
Is a return possible?
