Thanked: 636Welcome. Don't even practice on the Krieger. Such a cheap razor you will not learn anything. Better off with a Gold Dollar for practice honeing.
As far as shaving, it takes a long time to get things figured out. Then you will find there is always more to learn. It never ends. Be patient and stick with it.

Welcome! I have been at this about 5 years and am still learning so just be patient and stick with it
You made a nice choice for your starter razor, but as mentioned above I would look elsewhere for a practice blade for honing. A nice vintage blade would be a good start, you can also let look through the classifieds for a good deal.

Thanks for the welcome and the advice.
*Sigh* The purchase is already made, so what I see happening here is me moving forward to learn the lesson that you are warning me against, and then me heeding your advise to learn the skill using quality instruments.
Never let a good crisis go to waste.
Again, Thanks!

Thanked: 59Welcome aboard!! Lots of good people here willing to help out. A couple things though, The Kreiger I purchased also when I was new then found out it would never be honeable or even take a shaving edge. The gold dollar will take a shaving edge but not when you receive it out of the box. The shoulder needs to be ground down so it does not impede being put on a hone. There are a lot of threads on the subject here on SRP. Here are the names of a few razor companies that have made or are still making good reliable razors. There are many more but this will get you started.
