Welcome to the forum, Gabe! Glad to hear you are giving the straight razor shave a second life. You will be richly rewarded with the best shaves and lots of fun should you decide to have patience and stick with it.
Be sure to ask questions here if something doesn't seem right. The guys are excellent troubleshooters and will quickly get you back on track if something isn't working out for you. Many suggest about 100 shaves to get the skill down, so enjoy the journey!--Mark

Thanked: 37Thanks so much. I really like the idea of the straight shave, it's roots and the harkening back to an era of self reliance, patience and reward for something well executed.
My first go round was with a well regarded AOS unnamed razor with a Solingen stamp. A gorgeous 5/8 razor with simple lines and scales. I may have rolled the edge with my strop, or it may not have been quite shave ready. I put it aside too quickly and went back to my DE.
Well I'm stubborn in spades and I will get this right. I ordered a shavette to understand the shaving process with a sharp blade. Now back to the straights with a renewed vigor and a more thoughtful approach to stropping and honing. Thanks for the encouraging words guys.
