    Default Hello from SoCal! ;)

Hi everybody! I started shaving with a safety razor, badger brush and shaving soaps and the like about a few months ago now? Perhaps not that long ago, but I had been turned on to the whole process by family and have been loving it since!

I don't quite have a straight razor yet, although I'm comfortable just becoming more familiar with safety shaving until I can get a straight razor.

The brush I've been using is a Perfecto.. like a $10 Badger brush I got off of amazon when I started shaving and it works pretty well. Only possible complaint is that it feels a little rough/pointy on the tips. I had heard somewhere that it seemed like some people attested that badger brushes are essentially the way to go but is that really the case? Could there be some softer brushes out there that aren't quite as pricey as certain badger brushes? Hopefully introducing myself and asking a question in the same place isn't too much, sorry.

Either way, It's a pleasure to be here!

Hi there, Col. Scissors. Welcome to Straight Razor Place!

You might try a boar brush. I have a Semogue boar bristle brush that feels softer on the face than my fine hair badger.

    Hello and welcome to SRP.
Many silvertip badger brushes are very soft. A little homework on these should provide good results. I also have an Omega synthetic brush that is really soft. I don't use it too often seeing I like a lot of backbone and scritch in a brush. It should be fairly easy to find the perfect brush.
Enjoy your time here on the forum and have fun.

Welcome to SRP, Colonel! If you are on a budget, you may want to consider a boar brush instead of a badger one. What's your allowance for a new brush? That might help get you some better, more precise suggestions.

I hope you get yourself a straight razor sooner rather than later. They are tremendously fun shavers.

    Welcome to SRP!!

A lot of great folks and info here, check out the library.
A synthetic brush may be what you're looking for. They are much softer and are less expensive.
But as said you can get some very soft Badger brushes

    Enjoy and have fun!!

Welcome to SRP @ColonelScissors61. My suggestion would be a synthetic. They can be very inexpensive. Some guys swear by them. Check out Maggard Razors or West Coast Shaving seeing you are in SoCal for inexpensive synthetic brushes. You can even look at Straight Razor Design for one.
I also have a horse hair brush that I got at Target for around $22 if I remember correctly. I find it to be between boar and badger on the backbone scale. Backbone is how stiff the hair is.Name: 20170620_171914~2.jpg

Welcome Col Scissors. Keep your eye open at the wet shaving online stores...there's sure to be some sales for the Fourth.
If you find something you like just ask about it on SRP. Chances are someone on here has used it or knows somebody that has.
Holler if you need anything. Depending on were you are in SoCal I might be close enough to help one on one. I'm in North County SD; over by Temecula. (Same goes to sixptstar)
