    Hey all. Been looking at the straight razor shave for a while and finally getting things together to make it happen.

    My brother in law started a few years ago which peaked my interest.

    I am a full time firefighter paramedic and plan on shaving the night before shift. So I won't have to rush and can shower prior to shaving.

    Open to any suggestions and guidance and from all I have read on hear already this is a great place to get amazing advice.

    Welcome to the forum, sir! Shaving at night when you can relax is a great way to go and how I went about shaving at first. If you are looking to start out on a budget, the Buy/Sell/Trade section is a great place to find shave-ready vintage blades for much less than $100. SRD is a great place to hook yourself up with a strop and brush. Soaps/creams can be found everywhere, including eBay and Amazon. There's an active thread if you are not sure which one to start out using in the Shaving Creams and Soaps section.

    Good luck, stay patient, and have fun with this sport! In about 100 shaves or less, you will be doing quite well. Oh, if you have good motor skills with your non-dominant hand, give both hands a go at shaving. Helps in the long run I believe.

    Welcome to SRP!! You are definitely in the right place to take that interest as deep or as wide as you'd like!

    You may want to consider putting your Location in so folks near you may be able to offer hands-on help. Sounds like your Brother will be a great resource as well... Kind of the best-case scenario, really, as he can hook you up with gear then replace with new until you are up and running and then you guys trade from there.
