Default Hello from Salt Lake City

I am an absolute beginner. I have managed to pick up a few interesting blades. Now I am hooked. My wife is humoring me right now. She did by me a nice USMC razor for Christmas. Just found and polished a nice DePew. I love the history and utilitarianism of the blades. I know that these were mass produced. However it amazes me that even the crustiest of old razors can still hold an edge. I haven't tried shaving yet... My hands can be pretty shaky.

    Aloha!

Welcome to SRP and to the art of wet shaving. Sounds like the bug has bitten. Enjoy your trip no matter where this journey leads you.

BTW, I am a big fan or your area of the country. I used to be an avid Fly Fisherman and I have fished the Provo many times, and I enjoy the Sundance/Park City area. It's so beautiful there.

Welcome. Are you honeing them yourself? If so and you are not shaving how do you know you are honeing correctly. Before you start to shave have your razor professionally honed to give you an idea how it should feel. Check the library and ask questions. Enjoy the ride.

I like it here as well. I'm originally from the K.C. MO area. Southern Utah, canyon country, is amazing.

Please send them out for a real honing. And not buy a guy in your town that sharpens knifes and tools. A razor is a different animal. After a real razor honing you will be serprised on how sharp it really can be. Its the best way to start the learning prosess of SR Shaving. This way if there is an issue (irritation, bleaders, etc) you will know its not the raozr.
Good luck and welcome to SRP.
    It's just Sharpening, right?

    Welcome to SRP!!!

A lot of great folks and info here, check out the library. Also check out Lynns videos as well as Geoatboy on YouTube. Those two will show you all you need to know to get started.
Also Lynn, our founder, is a honemiester, I suggest having him hone your razor. There are also members here that do a great job as well
    Enjoy and have fun!!!

    Welcome to the forum.

Take your time and use no pressure when shaving. Be weary about that shaky hand too, should we be worried about your face? I am sure that you will love it once you get to grips with it, but don't expect great results at the start. I took me maybe four months before my shaves were consistent. There was great improvement within the first week, but no real consistency.

    Enjoy
