Thanked: 0Hello from Bossier City Louisiana
I enjoy making things with metal and why I don't have the skills nor all the equipment to start making straight razors yet I'm doing research on how it's done and gathering up things such as equipment and supplies to start. I've made a few blanks and scales just to test out my skill level just with a mild steel in which I'm pretty sure is a lot different than working with the correct type of metal and so far not to bad (in my opinion anyways) but hopefully I can gain knowledge and support through the process and learn tried methods of how its done and be on my way to making a good quality straight razor.

Welcome to SRP. If you go to the forum page you will see many subsections of SRP. Some will deal with razor construction. There are many members that make straight razors and as you get to know them and their work you will find many answers to your questions. There is a yearly meet, I believe in the fall in Texas (or there about) that deals with making razors. Bruno, one of our administrators is also an accomplished razor forger and attends that meet yearly. Your being where you are it should be a short trip to attend that particular meeting. Do read the welcoming pages and the rules for the various sections to stay current with the forum.

Hello and welcome to SRP.
If you scroll down to "The Workshop" thread, there is a subsection titled "The Forge" which would probably be of particular interest to you.
Enjoy learning. I'm looking forward to seeing your work.

Welcome to SRP! You should be able to find detailed information in just about any direction you look... And, if you don't, ask a question and someone will point the way. :-)
Enjoy your journey!
