Thanked: 5Hi from San Diego
Name is Cal and I live in SoCal....I know....
Coming from the DE world and looking forward to my first straight shave! I'm reading everything I can get my hands on and watching plenty of Youtube. Man, I have to say there's a lot to learn! Stropping and honing currently overloading my limited brain capacity! Great site, looking forward to spending lots of time here. Thanks for all the info.

Welcome to SRP, Cal! You will absolutely love the shave quality and fun to be had from straight razors, but the learning curve does take some time to master. Research all you can here and ask any questions that come to mind. I bet you're gonna be hooked!

spend most of your time learning shaving and stropping, your technique and stropping are the most important it takes time, lots of it. honing is something that can wait , learn to make decent lather, if you have been DE shaving maybe you already have this down pat.
just make sure you don't but junk razors and get something will be assured of shave readiness. we can help there. plus look for someone in your area for some one on one help, there is no better way Tc“ I,m getting the impression that everyone thinks I have TIME to fix their bikes”

Welcome to SRP Cal!!!
There's a lot of great folks and info here. Check out the library, you can get lost in there for days...........
As said above, learn stropping and the shave first. The stones are a whole nother world
Just shave the lather, pressure in shaving or stropping is your enemy.
Most of all, Enjoy and have fun!!!Look sharp and smell nice for the ladies.~~~Benz

Welcome to SRP. You've been given a lot of good info so I'll just press of the fact of Good gear. You dont need to spend 100's of bucks on a razor, just check that its not on the bad razor list in the library and be sure its really shave ready. Enjoy the trip. It a long one but in a few months you will be wondering why you stayed with DE for so long.
It's just Sharpening, right?
