Hello from Georgia
Hello.
I figured it would be a good idea to lurk around here for information and soak up as much as I can. I'm new to straight shaving and I was recently gifted a new Dovo Diamant. I'm looking forward to picking up on different shaving and blade maintenance techniques. If anyone has suggestions for shaving/maintenance kit, I'm all ears! I'm in the market for a brush, strop, hones, etc. and I might pick up a few used razors to develop honing/stropping technique on (I don't see a reason to ruin a brand new razor). Suggestions/advice are welcome! Thanks!

Welcome to SRP!
Start by reading the Beginner's Section in the Library. It will answer a lot of your questions.
Read and ask questions. We are here to help!
Most likely the new Dovo isn't shave ready despite what the packaging says. I suggest sending it out to be professionally honed. There are honing services listed in the Buy/Sell/Trade area of the forum. Some people never go crazy. What truly horrible lives they must lead - Charles Bukowski

Thanked: 634Welcome. Start with the library and ask questions. Take it slow. Don't try to do a full face shave your first try. Start with cheeks and work your way up. Stretching the skin is extremely important. So is blade angle, lather, prep and stropping. It will take time but you will get there.

Thanked: 315Welcome from Duluth GA. Get your first shaver professionally honed and save yourself a lot of trouble. Then you at least have a standard to compare to. I'll leave it at that since my battery is about to go dead!
Take care.

I have been looking around for a honing service near me, but haven't been able to find anything that doesn't seem sketchy. If anyone in the Columbus/Macon/ATL area has suggestions it would be appreciated. I checked in the buy/sell/trade area but the services forum appears to be empty for me. In my (very novice) opinion, the Dovo looks to be shave ready (it'll pop off a loose hair without pressure).
Thanks for all the advice! I've been soaking up info out of the library for a few weeks now. So much great information there.
