If you want cheap just stick to your replaceable blade razor, if you want inexpensive yet usable, then your going to need to spend more than 50$ for everything, the razor n question is a 5$ razor and their honing services leave something to be desired. 30-40 will get you a starter razor, just hold your money and spend some time reading n our library about first purchases and how to shave. Then if you look around you can find a strop also in the same range. Illinois 827 comes to mind or a decent paddle strop. And f your not wanting to spend any money honing is out anyway, it's cheaper to send it off. Tc

Thanked: 1Thank you tcrideshd! That is good advice. It seems like I should send any razor away for honing and not try to learn it yet.

No I'm not saying that ok, it depends on who you get it from,, guys who have been here a while and have lots of post counts are participating and learning. Plus you can follow to their posts to see what we think if them. As to new razors the stores that sell truly shave ready are straight razor designs, and I have heard Ralph aust, but if t comes from a respected member here and he says he honed t ready then it will be ready. The Azores that come from SRD are honed before they leave the store. So just be aware and ask s if St shave ready. Tc

I can't argue with your experience. You learned very fast, so a smaller razor obviously worked well for you. I just wanted the OP to hear from someone who found bigger razors easier in the beginning.
I also recommended a larger heavier razor to a fellow that had a bad tremor. He said that the extra weight helped immensely.
