An introduction
Hey all! I've been lurking around here for a couple of months now just trying to absorb everything. I'm new to straight razor shaving (just had my 48 day today). 40 years ago when I told my dad I needed to shave as kids at school were starting to make fun, he handed me his straight razor and said, "Here ya go." I tried it, but didn't stick with it as a I just didn't have the patience as a 14 year old. Several decades later I decided it was time to try again. I'm really enjoying it and I'm starting to get some pretty good shaves. I started with a Dovo Best Quality 6/8 but broke the scales pretty quickly as I was learning to strop. Being an intermediate wood worker I decided to make my own scales. So not only was this site helpful in learning how to actually shave, its been great at helping me make scales too! This is my first attempt at scale making and pinning. I had to pull my first pin out as I bent it. Here are a couple of pics of my first attempt. Might not be the prettiest, but it will do the job. I used Zebra wood for the scales and spent a lot of time watching Charlie Lewis' videos on YouTube on making scales. Great tutorials! Anyway, just thought I'd finally introdcue myself.

Welcome to SRP. You got a good start going on. Glad to have ya in the group. The scales look nice. Not bad for a first time at all. The hardest part in making scales is getting the wedge right. Cant see yours but thats ok. Then pinning tightly came be tough.
Enjoy your time with us. Post up lots of pics and ask all you want. It's just Sharpening, right?

Welcome to the group! The more you do it, the better it gets. Nice work on the scales! I have not yet dipped my toe into restoration but it very well may be in my future.

The wedge was a little tricky trying to bevel the one end. I did ok, but practice is definately needed.
