Brand new to all aspects of straight razors, but loving the art of the razors and nostalgia of the shave. Was just given a few old blades with which to play. I am going to start with restoring a Gold Bug and carving up a set of fancy wood scales. Thanks in advance for this phenomenal resource.

Welcome. Photos and a list of razors would help. Don't want you doing a first restore on a good razor. Check library. Lots of useful info.

I was using the mobile version...not intuitive. Switched to the full site and by coincidence the 12/31/17 shave of the day features a razor similar to one of mine only all the gold plating has been polished out.

You indicated that you received a "few old blades with which to play". I hope that that was a figure of speech only. While straight razors can be a lot of fun, do not ever consider them as a plaything. Playing with razors is like playing with guns, explosives, matches and chain saws; it seldom ends well. A few members here have ended up at the emergency room when they had a momentary lapse of awareness. When treated with the respect they deserve, straight razors are wonderful tools and using those tools can be most enjoyable. So do your homework, pay attention to what you are doing, and have fun in the process.
