Thanked: 98Thanks for all the welcoming words.
Picked up my gear from this store in downtown Vienna. https://www.esbjerg.com/de/ Lady really, really knew her stuff. Beautiful shop with lots to offer. The shop keeper and the other gentleman working where both very fixed that from purchase I absolutely do not hone or strop the razor for first use. So to date I have not honed.
One small technique issue I'm having is my upper lip. I'm WTG right and left (and yes im switching hands) and am getting fairly good XTG. But I can not get the right grip for my upper lip.

Thanked: 7Upper lip....I assume you are shaving the mustache area?
I am right-handed and use my right hand on both sides there. I do a downward pass, taking care to get beside the nostril openings well. I have to do a few passes to get it all off with new lather each time.
Your lips may be more pronounced, maybe that is giving you trouble. Someone else might weigh in but from me "keep after it" is the best I can type.
*I shaved a few hours ago and after replying I found myself carefully feeling my mustache area for any spots I might have missed. I didn't miss any.

For my upper lip, I use the pencil grip, scales aligned with the blade, passing over the hand between thumb and second finger. Like the grip of a scalpel.

Try this grip (others shown throughout this themed SotD thread):
