Thanked: 1Hi from the nor-cal coast
I joined not to long ago and I've been reading a lot and decided it was time for an introduction.
Tom...from the northern California coast. Just starting out with a straight razor. I've bought two vintage razors. A Henckels Platinum #401 and a Bontgen and Sabin.
Both are going out for a proper honing.
Looking foward to learning how to use and care for my new razors.

Welcome to SRP, Tom. Stropping technique is key to extending an edge -- if you haven't already, check out a few videos on the subject:

Hello and welcome!
You have the right idea, send them out to a pro and learn on a properly honed blade.
As they said, stropping is of great importance.
Read and ask questions. Have fun!“You must unlearn what you have learned.”

Welcome, Tom. You're on the right path. Learn to strop and shave. That is more than enough to figure out at one time. When you master the strop your edges will last for months. Go Slow on the strop. No need for speed, even after years, some folks still go slow on the strop. Speed comes with time if you want it. Ask questions and we will be happy to help you down this path.
It's just Sharpening, right?
